Orange, CaliforniaMercedes was born in Jalisco, Mexico. Her dream was to come to the United States, and at the age of 24 she made her way to San Diego, California. She did receive her US citizenship in 1992. She was married to Ed Thompson from 1963 to 1967 and they remained close throughout their lifetimes. She moved to Placentia, California and lived in Placentia for over 58 years. In 1973, she got a job at Valencia High School as a Laundry Operator, retiring after 28 years in 2001.
Mercedes never drove so she walked everywhere and had wonderful friends who invited her on outings. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Placentia and was very involved with her parish. After she retired, she spent much of her time at the Church, making lots of friends and being a constant presence there. She enjoyed traveling, constantly going to Mexico. She went to the Holyland and the holy places of Europe, which was her dream vacation. Her time was spent with family, friends, and the Church.
Mercedes is survived by her two daughters - Julieta Imelda and Liz - her four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. She has one surviving sister in Mexico City and numerous nieces and nephews here in the states and in Mexico. Her family adored and admired her and her memory will be everlasting.
