A Women’s Touch in the Funeral Services Industry

In our last blog we featured the growing trend of women leadership in the funeral industry. One of the most positive outcomes has been a different approach to the way families experience their interactions with a funeral home.
When facing one of life’s most difficult moments, working with a woman-owned or family-owned mortuary can bring warmth, integrity, and a truly personal approach. Women have historically played key roles in caring for the deceased and comforting
grieving families, bringing patience, attentiveness, and emotional intelligence to the profession.
Hilgenfeld Mortuary was established by Reverend Samuel Hilgenfeld, his son Melvin followed in his footsteps. In 1987, Melvin’s daughter Margie Hilgenfeld Field became the company’s president. Upon Margie’s passing, the reins were passed to Becky Areias, its current president.
As a business that falls into both categories, we’d like to share the focus of what we offer at Hilgenfeld Mortuary. The families we serve are not just another customer— our goal is to care for them as if they were part of the mortuary’s own family.
Our number one priority is to offer service that is personalized and sensitive to the needs of each individual family. Funeral planning is a very emotional process, our families want to be heard and supported in a way that will memorialize their loved one. It is our job to understand.
As we approach a century in this industry, we continue to strive toward maintaining the family values that were established by our founder. These deeply held values transfer to our commitment to ethical pricing, transparency, and genuine services.
It has also been a top priority to stay connected to the community where we have done business since 1927. We cherish the long-standing relationships we have with families who have also been here for generations. We make it our practice to give back to our
community working with other businesses and charitable organizations to improve the lives of those who live here.
It has been our great pleasure to serve the families who have come through our doors over the years. We do our best to offer the kind of service we would want for our own families generation after generation.
