Honoring the Anaheim Community For Nearly A Century

Shows the Hilgenfeld Mortuary Sign that reads since 1927.

Since 1927, Hilgenfeld Mortuary has stood as a cornerstone of care and compassion in Anaheim. Located on the same Anaheim street since opening nearly a century ago—Hilgenfeld Mortuary is more than a business; it is a part of the city’s story. Beyond dedication to their profession, the Hilgenfeld family has long believed that being a good neighbor means being involved. From the earliest days, they supported and participated in local events. One such event is the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade, a cherished tradition that predates the mortuary itself. This year, Hilgenfeld Mortuary will once again sponsor a float for the parade.

Since the 1980s, under the direction of Margie Hilgenfeld Field, who passed away in 2015, and her daughter Becky Areias, current president of Hilgenfeld Mortuary, Hilgenfeld Mortuary  carried their commitment of service forward from the two generations that proceeded them. Margie and Becky served as leaders in numerous community organizations and their leadership and generosity have touched countless causes. Both women were honored by the 46th District’s Woman of the Year Award and received local business recognitions for their community service. Margie also founded the Anaheim Beautiful Tree Memorial Program, creating a living tribute that honors those who have passed while enhancing the beauty of the city she loved. Margie and Becky have truly exemplified what it means to lead with service.

Their contributions also extend beyond Anaheim. Hilgenfeld Mortuary has long supported the Cypress College Mortuary Science Program, helping to educate and mentor the next generation of funeral service professionals. Through the Hilgenfeld Foundation Scholarship, established by Melvin Hilgenfeld, they continue to provide educational opportunities for students and professionals dedicated to compassionate care.

For nearly 100 years, Hilgenfeld Mortuary has remained a trusted name in both community and care. Through decades of change and growth, the family has continued to uphold their original mission: to serve others with integrity and heart.
