George James Coates

George Coates, 80, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2023. George was born on May 3, 1942 in Los Angeles, California and grew up in nearby Torrance. He met his soulmate Judy in 1961 at a bowling alley, where he worked as a fry cook, and they married on February 8, 1964. Together they raised their three children, Carrie, Cindy, and James. George loved to sing and dance to his beloved rock’n’roll and was a skilled pool shark. In his youth, he pinstriped hot rods, and his creative spark carried through his long life as he created sketches and illustrations. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Lakers, the Rams, and the Angels, and his TV always had a game on. He enjoyed working on his garden and driving around in his PT Cruiser. George was a devoted grandfather to four grandchildren, Miranda, Andrew, Ella, and Miles, and blessed to have recently become a great-grandfather to his great-grandson, Griffin. George is survived by his wife Judy, his three children, and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchild. George left a mark on the hearts of everyone he met with his warm generosity, good natured sense of humor, and unrelenting smile. He will be forever missed by us all.
