Joan Lucrezia Hernandez, beloved mother, Nonna, sister, aunt, and friend, began her eternal rest on October 23, 2025.
Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Pietro (Pete) and Angelina Facchini. Joan grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and later moved to Torrance, California, after marriage. She and her husband raised their family in La Palma, where Joan built a life full of laughter, friendship, and faith before retiring back to her beloved Tucson.
She practiced charity in the simplest and truest ways - always thinking of others, even in the smallest moments. Whether she was shopping or running errands, she found joy in picking up something she knew would brighten someone else's day. Her thoughtfulness, sense of humor, and deep love for family will be cherished always.
She lived a life of service and kindness, finding purpose in helping others. Her honesty - honest to a fault, as those who loved her would say - was part of her genuine spirit. You always knew where you stood with her, and that truthfulness came from a place of love.
Joan enjoyed a long career as an administrative secretary in the aerospace industry, where she formed lifelong friendships with a fun-loving group of women who made every workday an adventure. After retiring, she delighted in her "fun job" at Coldwater Creek, happily folding clothes, helping customers shop, and sharing her bright smile and quick wit with everyone who walked through the door.
Never one to sit still, Aunt Joannie loved spending time with her nieces for game nights, wine tastings, or whatever spontaneous plans came their way. She had a special bond with her nephews as well, who could always count on her humor and playful teasing. Joannie was never afraid to speak her mind and always stood up for the underdog - qualities that made her both respected and adored.
She loved spending time with her son and daughter and visited them often, but her greatest joy in life came from her five grandsons: Daniel Joseph, Dominic Pietro, Lorenzo Alexander, Christopher James, and Andrew Vincent. They were the lights of her life, and she treasured every moment with them. Joan's heart was also deeply moved by her faith - she often felt an emotional connection whenever she attended church, a reflection of her spiritual foundation.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Danny. She is survived by her daughter, Danielle Masciel; son, Reuben Hernandez; son-in-law, James Masciel; daughter-in-law, Anita Hernandez; grandsons Daniel, Dominic, Lorenzo, Christopher, and Andrew; great-granddaughter, Penelope Joan, and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Anaheim. A graveside service will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange at 12 noon.
Joan will be remembered for her sharp wit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. She brought joy, laughter, and a touch of sass to everyone she met - and her legacy will continue to shine in all who loved her.
