Kathryn Elizabeth “Bibi” Faraday died November 30, 2022, at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, CA. She was born in Johnstown, PA, on February 4, 1931. She was the daughter of Anne C. Plunkett and Thomas W. Bender, Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. The family moved to New Cumberland when she was young. She graduated from Harrisburg Catholic HS and attended St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing, in Baltimore, MD graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1952. In 1955, Kathryn married Edward G. Faraday, CFO of the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg. Edward and Kathryn divorced in 1991 and Edward passed away in 2017. They first lived in Harrisburg, PA, where four of their six children were born - Michael (Madelyn), Kathleen (Jim), Sean(deceased) and Stephen (Andrea “Sudha”). Shortly after, they moved to Carlisle, PA, where Patrick (Erica) and Beth Anne (Mart) were born. Kathryn, Edward and the six children moved to Musoma, Tanzania in early1967, where Kathryn generously donated her nursing and management skills to a local medical clinic which now serves as a major hospital. Kathryn had eight grandchildren - Ryan (Jillian) and Ben Heisey; Thomas Faraday; Clint, Mason, and Ellie Cizek; Ronan and Emerson Faraday; and one great-grandchild with Ryan and Jillian Heisey due January 2023. She is also survived by her sister and confidante, Patricia “Patty” Barilla (Andrew “Andy”, deceased), in Bel Air, MD. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. There was nothing more important to Bibi (Grandmother in Swahili) than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She always moved to be near Ryan and Ben. She often traveled to visit family in Maine, Tennessee, and New York. Bibi loved living with her youngest grandchildren Ronan and Emerson in Anaheim, CA. Kathryn’s career was caring for others, and she exemplified true kindness, love, and devotion with her lifetime care of our beloved brother, Sean Thomas. Kathryn was politically active with the Democratic Party and championed Civil Rights, Equal Rights and Health Care Rights for All. A Service will be held at 11am Monday, December 19, at Hilgenfeld Mortuary in Anaheim, CA, and the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, in Orange, CA. The Funeral Reception will follow at Citrus City Grille in Orange, CA.
