Ruben Montes Perez, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 4, 1937 in Chihuahua, Mexico, and grew up on his family’s ranch where he helped tend to crops and care for horses, cattle and other livestock. He enjoyed sharing stories about journeying with his beloved horse through the surrounding Sierra Madre. Ruben came to the United States in the early 1960s and ultimately established roots for his family as one of the first residents of Irvine where he spent the last 55 years. Ruben loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his family on camping trips to the local San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains. One of his greatest joys was spending time in his backyard, tending to the trees and flowers in his garden where he could often be found taking wonder in the local birds, squirrels and lizards. Ruben was a devout Catholic who attended the local Church on Sundays. He often spoke of God and found strength, comfort and healing through his faith and devotion to praying the Rosary. He believed in doing good to all living things regardless of the circumstances and often donated to underserved communities. Ruben was a generous, loving and kind-hearted husband, father, grandfather and friend who left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was the rock of his family and is remembered fondly through the devoted love, life wisdom and timeless memories he gifted to those who had the privilege to know him. Ruben’s legacy lives on in all those whose lives he touched through his gentle, caring and nurturing manner. He is survived by his wife and 4 children. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his 9 grandchildren.
