Tree Memorials Available in the City of Anaheim

A group gathers around a tree planting including a sign that reads The Margie Hilgenfeld Tree Memorial program.

Margie Hilgenfeld Field was Hilgenfeld Mortuary’s third generation leader as she took over the operations of the business from her father, Melvin in 1987. Serving in the role of president until her passing in 2015, Margie brought compassionate and loving care not only to the families Hilgenfeld Mortuary served, but also the community that had been home to the business since 1927.

Margie was well loved throughout Anaheim and Orange County for all the good works she did through service to several community and industry related organizations. One organization, Anaheim Beautiful, was especially important to her. Margie served as president of Anaheim Beautiful and was the founder of its Tree Memorial Program which lets families honor their loved ones by planting a tree in one of Anaheim’s many parks. In her honor, the program was renamed in 2015 as The Margie Hilgenfeld Tree Memorial Program.

Ten years after Margie’s passing, the program is still going strong with memorial trees planted in several parks within the city limits. Anaheim Beautiful partners with the City of Anaheim’s Community Services Parks Division in selecting the most appropriate tree and location. The Parks Division plants the tree and oversees its ongoing care. Anaheim Beautiful works with the families to host a planting ceremony where family members and friends can attend to help plant the tree. A certificate is also provided.

Memorial trees cost $300 and after the cost of the tree is deducted, proceeds go back into Anaheim Beautiful’s budget to support their scholarship program. For information and details, please contact the Hilgenfeld Mortuary office (714.535.1405) or stop by for a brochure.

Celebrating Margie in this way has brought Hilfenfeld Mortuary’s family and staff great joy. It is an ongoing memorial to all that Margie gave to her family, her business and her community.
