Lake Forest, CA 92630Byron Dale La Counte passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in Anaheim, California. He was 77 years old.
Born on July 9, 1947, in Los Angeles County, Byron was the son of Harold and Gwen La Counte and grew up with a love of aviation, model trains, and a strong Christian faith that guided his life.
On November 28, 1970, Byron married the love of his life, Correen. Their marriage spanned more than five decades, marked by deep devotion, shared faith, and steadfast love. Correen preceded him in death in September 2024.
Together, they raised three children: Kevin La Counte (Dorothy); Scott La Counte (Diana); and their late daughter, Rebecca (Becky) La Counte.
Byron enjoyed a long career in the airline industry, beginning with Hughes Airwest and continuing through Republic, Northwest, and ultimately Delta Airlines, where he retired. A licensed pilot, he once owned a Piper Cub—his pride and joy—which he sold to help put a down payment on their first home, a quiet act of selflessness typical of his character.
Outside of work and family, Byron found joy in building model train layouts, a hobby that combined creativity, patience, and a sense of play he never outgrew. He also remained deeply rooted in his Christian faith, which was the foundation of how he lived and loved.
He is survived by his sons Kevin and Scott; daughters-in-law Dorothy and Diana; his sister Patricia (Patti) Walker; and his grandchildren Hannah, Sarah, Joshua, and Miko. He was preceded in death by his wife Correen, daughter Becky, grandson Mordecai, brother Wayne, and parents Harold and Gwen.
A graveside service will be held on June 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at El Toro Memorial Park (25751 Trabuco Rd, Lake Forest, CA 92630).
Byron’s life was marked by quiet strength, enduring faith, and a love for his family.
