Hazel Wilson Peterson, also self-identified as “Fabulous Hazel”,  was the beloved daughter to John and Agnes Sims, sister to Nancy Hasty, wife to James Newell, mother to 7 children, mother-in-law to 5, grandmother to 11 and great grandmother to 1. She passed away at home 2 months shy of her 94th birthday on Friday August 27th with her family and loved ones at her side. Hazel was born in Chicago, IL where she grew up, was married and had her first child. From there they moved out west to California and added to their family in Riverside, San Diego then Anaheim where she lived for the past 54 years. Being with family and going to her kids and grandkids sporting events and activities was her favorite pastime. Everyone always knew Hazel since she stood out as being the loudest one in the stands cheering on the kids, grandkids and the team. She was extremely dedicated to her family and played a very active role in their lives be it Sunkist Elementary School PTA President; Treasurer for several groups; developing, participating, and being Team Mom and Manager of IGS and Bobbysocks teams with her daughters and Little League teams with her sons; running snack stands; acting as the Girl Scout Leader and Treasurer; supporting Sea Scouts and Boy Scouts; being school Room Mother and Volunteer; and playing the chaperone and chauffeur escorting everyone to games and events. She always stepped up when things were needed, whatever it may be. Hazel was always there to lend a helping hand, rallying the troops with a big smile of support. Loved and remembered by everyone that came in contact with her, she touched hundreds of lives and certainly left a lasting and memorable impression on those who had the honor to know her. May her memory comfort you, brighten your days and bring joy to your heart. She will always hold a special place in all of our hearts, forever more.
